While Alcan has long ceased to be Kitimat’s only employer, its operations remain a vital component of the local economy. They are also important in the regional and provincial contexts, and are one of the single largest sources of B.C. value-added manufacturing exports.

Each year, Alcan B.C. commissions an assessment (64KB pdf) of its direct economic contributions within the province, with regional and community breakdowns. This provincial economic impact exceeds a quarter of a billion dollars annually. Key components include payroll and benefits, goods and services, pension payments, and property taxes.
