Overview

EHS FIRST is an Alcan-wide management system, and one of the components of AIMS. AIMS provides a consistent sustainability framework across all of Alcan Inc.’s global operations. Its guiding principles are defined in Alcan’s EHS FIRST Policy (949KB pdf).

EHS FIRST is the foundation for Alcan B.C.’s operation-specific risk management system. It is based on a continuous cycle of target setting, implementation, assessment, and improvement; and also fosters increased awareness, knowledge sharing, and the application of best practices.

As per EHS FIRST requirements, Alcan B.C.’s risk management system meets demanding ISO certification standards, and is subject to regular third-party audits.

Alcan B.C. has achieved noteworthy improvements relating to the various corporate-wide EHS FIRST focal points, including climate change, natural resource stewardship, environmental releases, and health and safety.

Performance against key indicators is tracked on a month-to-month basis and widely publicized throughout Alcan B.C. by means of an EHS Scorecard.
